Created For: Rasmussen College’s 2016 Academic Symposium poster and logo design contest.

Goal: The goal of this project was to create a logo for Rasmussen College’s 2016 Academic Symposium that could be used on a variety of materials (posters, banners, and so on).

The logo was to convey the theme "Design Thinking: Embracing Innovation and Creative Problem Solving."

I first reviewed the technical specifications for this project, which noted the Symposium’s theme, color scheme, and typefaces. I then went to work researching "design thinking" and coming up with imagery. Creating a list of keywords associated with design thinking, research, and creativity also helped me come up with ideas.

After creating sketches for my poster, I used everything from the Pen tool to the Shape tools to the Pathfinder tools in Adobe Illustrator to create the vector icons and illustrations. My goal was for the poster to look interesting and fun, yet professional.

As of 09/13/16, I have not heard whether or not my submission was selected. Even if my poster is not selected, this project was still a great learning experience – it taught me how to create a design using technical specifications from a client, how to meet a deadline on short notice, and how to create unique and clear vector illustrations.
